Window Shades for the Kitchen
It is best to select window coverings for
your kitchen which are easy to clean. These window coverings which are
easy to clean include those which are made from aluminum or wood. Blinds
with smooth painted finishes are easier to clean and maintain than are
those with rough, textured finishes.
For privacy at night and adequate light during the day, roller shades
work well. Obtain shades with a continuous cord so that they are simple
to pull up and down. To achieve balance and scale, as well as color and
style top the window shades with a valance. The valance will hide the
roller shades when they are pulled up during the day. Simple, yet
stylish window treatments such as these will provide your kitchen with
function, style and flexibility. The flexibility is in the valance
because you may use any type of print, whether it be floral, plaid,
plain or some unique pattern that will blend in with your kitchen decor
and theme.
The style of the valance can be flat, poufy or somewhere in between. If
your kitchen has country decor, you may prefer a flat valance, whereas
if it is a little more formal, you may prefer that the valance be poufy.
You can also use the valance fabric for cushions on your kitchen chairs
or for other items in your kitchen.
Valances also look nice with shutters and window blinds. Shutters are a
popular look for country French kitchens, or just plain country
kitchens. Shutters are available in two different styles: plantation
shutters and cafe shutters. The entire window is covered with plantation
shutters and they contain louvers which can be opened and closed to let
light filter inside. A country or coastal cottage appearance will look
great with shutters. Cafe shutters merely cover the bottom half of the
window; they swing open to enable the light to filter inside.
Window blinds, such as mini blinds, are very inexpensive, thus, you can
save a great deal of money, yet still achieve style by topping the
mini-blinds with a valance.
